OBAFEMI AWOLOWO UNIVERSITY SETS UP THE BEST PHANTOM HEAD ROOM FOR TRAINING UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS IN NIGERIA

 

The phantom head room is essential for the training of both undergraduate and postgraduate students all over the world. It is the simulation laboratory for the training of dentists. It allows for the training on management of hard dental tissue disorders prior to the support of students to conduct clinical oral health care.

The 17th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Division of International Association of Dental Research (IADR) held at the University of Port-Harcourt between 27th and 28th October 2019. The two days event kicked off with a pre-conference workshop and the IADR Unilever Hatton competition for both junior and senior categories. The chair was Prof Eyitope Ogunbodede, the Vice Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. Two recently graduated students of the Faculty of Dentistry, Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife - Alimi Peter and Oluwatola Toluwani - competed in the junior category. They presented abstracts of their undergraduate thesis. Oluwatola Toluwani emerged the runner up in the competition.

 The second day of the conference featured a guest lecture titled Oral Health In Nigeria, Past, Present and Future which was delivered by the Vice-Chancellor of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Prof Eyitope Ogunbodede, who did justice to the topic using his experiences as the founding IADR Nigeria Division president, a self-taught historian and a museologist.
